Meet Hugh…

He can make you laugh, lower your guard — and leave you wondering how much he already knows.

In Devil’s Pool, Book One, Hugh is far more than the polished English gentleman he appears to be.

Hugh is Thor’s friend, investor, former MI6 operative and a specialist in psychological warfare. Charming, witty and effortlessly composed, he brings intelligence and sophistication to a world where danger can erupt without warning. His humour often cuts through the tension, but beneath the sarcasm is a highly disciplined and intelligent operator.

Hugh’s background gives him a unique set of abilities. His experience includes psychological warfare, hypnosis, conversational influence, diplomacy and social intelligence. Combined with his business connections and investor network, these skills make him a valuable ally as Thor and his team become entangled in a dangerous criminal operation stretching across the world of the Zambezi and Victoria Falls.

Yet Hugh rarely reveals everything he knows. His greatest advantage may be the contrast between his refined public persona and the operational experience hidden beneath it. When circumstances change, the gentleman disappears — replaced by someone capable of calculated psychological strategy and controlled action.

His loyalty to Thor is personal. Their friendship repeatedly draws Hugh into situations where the stakes become increasingly dangerous. Alongside Cherie, Steve and the wider team, he becomes part of a network built on friendship, trust and shared risk.

In a world where strength is not always measured by force, Hugh knows that the right words can sometimes be the most powerful weapon of all.
